Fighting for Justice in Horry County
In a Horry County trial, a jury awarded nearly $21 million to the estate of Zerihun Wolde, a Maryland man who tragically drowned at Myrtle Beach’s Sea Crest Resort in 2018. Wolde, trying to save his children from rip currents, made unanswered cries for help. Lack’s Beach Service, responsible for lifeguards, failed safety standards due to a controversial “dual role” policy requiring lifeguards to also handle commercial sales.
Representing the estate, Christopher Pracht highlighted Lack’s unsafe practices, which led to the revocation of its certification. Despite warnings, the company persisted in its approach, neglecting public safety during the incident.
The jury awarded $13.73 million in actual damages and $7 million in punitive damages, reinforcing the importance of prioritizing safety over profits. This case exemplifies Pracht’s dedication to advocating for families in wrongful death cases and his commitment to justice and accountability.
